Official Reception to promote Moldova, organized in Geneva

State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), jointly with the Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva, organized an event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Moldova’s independence and accession to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The official reception was held on September 2, at the headquarters of WIPO in Geneva, and was aimed at promoting the cultural and traditional potential of the Republic of Moldova and the national system of intellectual property, including the system of protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin of the Republic of Moldova.

The ceremony was attended by over 300 guests, including about 100 citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the Moldovan diaspora members in Switzerland, many Directors General of the specialized UN agencies, leadership of the World Intellectual Property Organization, World Trade Organization, Inter-parliamentary Union, and representatives of the diplomatic corps of the 193 diplomatic missions accredited to the UNO.

The high guest of honor was S.E. Michael Moller, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva.

AGEPI was represented in the event by the Director General, Octavian Apostol.

The event was opened by Moldovan Ambassador to Switzerland, Tudor Ulianovschi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva, who noted in his speech that every country in the law-governed state building, economic development and democratic consolidation process of the nation is facing many challenges and various tests of maturity. Moldova must learn the lessons of the past, to avoid errors and to synchronize its actions in order to promote the image abroad, the modernization and creation of better living conditions for all citizens.

Ambassador Ulianovschi pointed out that the biggest achievement and added value for Moldova in the 25 years of independence is the new generation of youth.

During the ceremony in Geneva was organized a stand promoting Moldova. Guests have been offered promotional materials on the history, culture and socio-economic activity of the republic of Moldova, including about the national intellectual property system. Also, during the reception was presented an exhibition of works made by children from the Academic High School of Fine Arts “Igor Vieru”, under the patronage of the Royal House of Romania.

The participants in the event could taste the traditional dishes such as force-meat rolls in cabbage, maize mush with sheep cheese and enjoyed the wines with geographical indication of the Republic of Moldova.

The culmination of the ceremony was the entertainment program presented by Moldovan singer Valentin Uzun and dancers from the Ballet Show Flash, artistic director and master of arts Iurie Buffalo.
