In the period 20-22 August 2014, in the city of Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, is held the third meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property.

In the work of the third meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property take part plenipotentiary representatives and representatives of IP offices of the Republic of Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Moldova and Republic of Tajikistan.

Also, as observers at the meeting are present persons responsible within the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO).

Moldova is represented at this meeting by Lilia BOLOCAN, Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property.

According to the working agenda, in the meeting of the Interstate Council are addressed several issues related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Participants in the meeting will address a number of important issues that concern regional cooperation in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including measures taken by them in fighting violations of intellectual property rights and actions undertaken ​​in order to support the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy of the Commonwealth of Independent States until 2020.

In this period also takes place the regional seminar entitled “Intellectual Property System and Ways of Developmental”, organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Tajikistan. The seminar is attended by representatives of national IP offices in the Member States of the Interstate Council and EAPO.

On 9 July 2013, on the first working day of the second meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property that was held in Chisinau in the period 9-11 July 2013, the Republic of Moldova as the host country of the meeting, took over the presidency of the Interstate Council for 2014. This year, Republic of Moldova forwards the presidency to the Republic of Tajikistan.

The first meeting of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property took place in 2012 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

The Interstate Council was established under the Cooperation Agreement on the Creation of the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Defense of Intellectual Property, signed on November 19, 2010, in the city of St. Petersburg.

The aforementioned Agreement was approved by Government Decision No. 442 of 16.06.2011 and was submitted to Parliament for information.

The Interstate Council includes representatives of nine countries signatories of the Agreement: Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Tajikistan, Ukraine and Republic of Uzbekistan.

The agreement aims primarily at coordinating joint activities on improving the interstate system for the protection and defense of intellectual property and counteracting intellectual property offences.
