02/09/2023

The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated on February 9, in the Third Scientific Conference dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The event took place within the International Scientific Conference “Yesterday’s Cultural Heritage - Implications for the Development of Tomorrow’s Sustainable Society”, 7th edition, which takes place on February 9-10, and is organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Researchers from the Republic of Moldova, Germany, Romania and Ukraine participate in the International Conference.

The 2023 edition of the International Scientific Conference “Yesterday’s Cultural Heritage – Implications for the Development of Tomorrow’s Sustainable Society” is held in a hybrid format and comes with a complex agenda. During the two days, 210 communications are presented, within 14 sections. Apart from the section Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage - Experience and Good Practices, traditionally organized in Iași (Romania), and the communications sections that take place in Chisinau, for the first time a communications section is also organized in Lviv (Ukraine) with the main title Applied Decorative Folk Art: Issues of Research, Representation and Valorization of Authentic Artefacts.

The Exhibition “Human Heritage - The Supreme Value of the Republic of Moldova” is also open during the conference.

In his welcoming message, the President of ASM, academician Ion Tighineanu, highly appreciated the activity of women in the fields of science and technology. “The very vast program of this year’s conference shows us a multidisciplinary scientific event, where researchers from all fields of science have signed up, as evidenced by the 14 sections and panels, in which various problems of our times will be addressed. The most important is the call for peace, as well as supporting our course on the path of European integrationЭ, emphasized the President of AAM.

Present at the opening of the Scientific Conference dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, noted that: “Through the prisms of its activity, the State Agency on Intellectual Property is one of the most plausible and credible witnesses of successes which the ladies and young ladies from the Republic of Moldova obtain. Our databases show women who each hold more than 250 patents for invention in the field of chemistry, dozens of inventions in biology, agriculture, medicine, electronic engineering and nanotechnology, and many other fields of research.”

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was established by the resolution of the UN General Assembly on 22 December 2015. The annual celebration of this day is intended to draw attention to the issue of women’s participation in research activity, especially to celebrate achievements in the field of science, technology and innovation, women and girls employed in this sphere. And also to try by all means to ensure the principles of equality and to eliminate all forms of gender-based discrimination in the field of science, and to encourage efforts to train young women in scientific progress and innovative technologies, guaranteeing them equal rights to participate in the research activity.

In the Republic of Moldova, this day has been marked since 2016. And in 2021, the first conference dedicated to women and girls in science was organized at ASM.
