AGEPI and NIJ: Discussions on Strengthening Interinstitutional Cooperation

The Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, had a meeting on February 22, 2022, with the Interim Director of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Ecaterina Popa.

The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen the cooperation established at interinstitutional level and to reaffirm the mutual commitments assumed in the segment of professional training of NIJ beneficiaries in the field of intellectual property.

In the meeting also participated from the AGEPI: Diana Stici, Head of the Legal Department and Liliana Vieru, Head of the Communication and International Relations Department, and from the NIJ: Cezara-Elena Polisca, Counselor of NIJ Director, Head of Didactic-Methodical and Training of Trainers Section, and Marina Leu, Continuous Training Section.

Taking into account the need to promote knowledge on the national and international system of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights among specialists in the justice sector, aspects were discussed regarding the development and updating of the continuous training module in the field.

During the meeting, the subject of facilitating the access of judges from the Republic of Moldova, with the support of AGEPI, to the distance learning course in the field of intellectual property, offered free of charge by the Academy of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in English, French and Spanish languages.

At the same time, the parties discussed the opportunity to translate the course of the WIPO Academy into Romanian, to adapt it to the needs of the domestic judicial system and, respectively, to provide it on the national distance learning platforms. It should be noted that the course program offered by the WIPO Academy was designed to increase the capacity and offer of national judicial training institutes and to strengthen the skills and abilities of judges in the effective settlement of disputes having as an object the protection of intellectual property rights.

We remind you that AGEPI and NIJ signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on April 12, 2013, which stipulates the need to promote knowledge in the field of intellectual property among employees in the justice sector of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, within the activities provided by the Memorandum of Cooperation, the two institutions annually organize training seminars in the field, including with the invitation of experts and specialists from abroad.
