World Bank Mission to AGEPI

Representatives of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) had a meeting, on 24 April 2019, with Mr. Goran Vranic, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank on a visit to support the technical implementation of Project II to improve competitiveness in the Republic of Moldova.

Mr. Vranic’s visit to AGEPI was aimed at familiarizing with the system of registration of enterprises and organizations and, in particular, registration of trade names in the Republic of Moldova, and identifying the needs to improve it by implementing new technological solutions.

World Bank representative’s interest in the field of ​​intellectual property has mainly been focused on trademarks, namely the system of filing registration applications, the availability of access to data on protected trademarks in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the cooperation, data exchange and interoperability with the relevant international and national registers.

During the meeting AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan briefly presented the intellectual property system of the Republic of Moldova, the statistical data on the filing and registration of trademarks as well as data exchanges of AGEPI with the international and regional organizations in the field.

Subsequently, the World Bank representative was informed about the AGEPI databases on trademarks protected on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, the technological tools used to process and make the data available to the public and incorporate them into international databases (WIPO Global Brand Database, TMview).

It should be mentioned that the Mission of the World Bank representative for the technical implementation of Project II to improve competitiveness foresees a series of meetings with different governmental authorities and has as main objective the evaluation of the current situation in the field of state registration of legal entities and the implementation of a technological solution for the integrated registration of trade names by consolidating different databases in this respect.
