A training seminar organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) was held in online format on March 14, 2022, intended for specialists of the Trademarks and Industrial Design Department and the Legal Department of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI).
The purpose of the event was to consolidate knowledge and exchange experiences and best practices in the field of enforcement of intellectual property rights, in particular as regards the relative grounds for refusal in the event of opposition by the owner of an unregistered trademark or other sign used in trade.
EUIPO Representative Francesca Elena Dragostin, Specialist in the Operations Department of EUIPO, presented the practice of the European Office implementing Article 8(4) of Regulation (EU) 2017/1001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2017 on the European Union trade mark. In addition to the legal and procedural aspects related to the application of the provisions of Regulation 1017/1001, the European expert also came up with the presentation of some case studies that exemplify, through the illustration of some cases, the problems addressed. The seminar was organized in Romanian which facilitated the accessibility and ensured an increased interactivity of the participants in the event.
Highly appreciating the content and format of the event, the representatives of the two offices were interested in organizing similar events on other topics of interest.
The training of AGEPI specialists and the adoption of best practices in the field of trademarks, industrial designs is a priority objective of the bilateral cooperation between AGEPI and EUIPO, provided by the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, signed on December 2021.
