On April 22, in the Central Library of the Municipal Library B.P. Hasdeu, was held a festive meeting dedicated to the Librarian Day in the Republic of Moldova, World Book and Copyright Day.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Deputy General Director of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Andrei Popa, president of the Librarians Association of the Republic of Moldova (ABRM) and librarians from different regions of the country.
Deputy Director General of AGEPI, Andrei Popa, congratulated librarians on the occasion of their professional day, wishing them health to be able to effectively conduct their activity, good understanding and diligence. At the same time, Andrei Popa thanked librarians for the support given in promoting and disseminating information in the field of intellectual property.
At the same time, Deputy Director General of AGEPI announced the results of the Republican Contest “Library – Partner in Promoting Intellectual Property”, organized by AGEPI, and presented diplomas and prizes to representatives of the winning libraries:
- Republican Technical-Scientific Library of the National Institute of Economic Research
- Medical Scientific Library of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiteanu”
- Public district library in Floresti.
Four other libraries were mentioned with special prizes.
Also in the festive meeting were announced the results of the national Contests held by ABRM – “Best Librarian of the Year 2015” and “Most Successful Works in the Field of Librarianship and Information Sciences in 2015”. The event continued with a recital by Zinaida Bolboceanu.
On April 23, at the initiative of UNESCO, it is celebrated World Book and Copyright Day. By this day UNESCO seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of rights on objects of intellectual property through copyright. UNESCO’s General Council decided decreeing, in 1995, the World Book and Copyright Day, to symbolically mark the birth and death of some prominent writers and also to encourage reading.
UNESCO message for the 2016 edition is: The power of reading is to keep creativity and advance the intergenerational dialogue and chance and gender equality.
In Moldova, this day is also marked the Librarian Day, established in recognition of the role that librarians have in the knowledge-based society.
