Invitation to the Workshop on Copyright: Alignment of Moldovan Legal Framework with the EU Acquis

05/14/2025

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI), in close coordination with the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission announce the organization of the Workshop on Copyright: Alignment of Moldovan Legal Framework with the EU Acquis.

The event will take place in Chisinau, from 15 to 16 May 2025, and aims to assess the current state of copyright legislation in the Republic of Moldova and facilitate the exchange of European best practices, with the aim of supporting the alignment of Moldova’s legal framework with EU copyright standards. The workshop will bring together key stakeholders in the field, including policymakers, copyright experts and industry representatives, including from EU Member States. The participants will examine key directives, including those on online content sharing services, collective management of copyright and related rights, as well as exceptions and limitations to copyright, with a focus on their implementation in the Republic of Moldova.

During the two days of discussions, issues such as the right of communication to the public, multi-territorial licensing, regulations on retransmission and limitations to copyright will be addressed, underlining the importance of harmonizing the copyright system of the Republic of Moldova with European standards to ensure legal certainty and improve the protection of the rights of creators, companies and users. Special attention will be paid to the challenges of digital copyright, including remuneration for private copies and the regulation of online content services.

The event is aligned with the priorities of the Republic of Moldova in the ongoing negotiations for accession to the EU in the field of copyright and related rights. The protection and use of intellectual property rights are fundamental for creating an environment conducive to innovation, creativity and free competition, contributing to increasing the investment attractiveness and economic and cultural development of the Republic of Moldova.

Interested persons are invited to register and participate online in the Workshop on Copyright: Alignment of Moldovan Legal Framework with the EU Acquis. The provisional agenda of the workshop can be found below.
