Geographical Indications to the Attention of a Regional Project Implemented under the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program 2014-2020

Mrs. Lilia Bolocan, Director General of AGEPI today had a working meeting with representatives of the “Business Consultancy Center”, who presented the project “Sustainable Agricultural Trade Network in the Black Sea Basin – AgriTradeNet”, funded by the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program 2014-2020.

The main objective of the project is increasing the capacity of local producers and strengthening cooperation between business, producers’ organizations and local authorities for regional branding and transnational trading of agricultural products. Particular attention will be paid to increasing the capacity of agricultural producers wishing to produce and export traditional agricultural products, with defined geographical origin, which can be marked and marketed with national quality symbols: geographical indications (GIs), appellations of origin (AO) and Traditional Specialties Guaranteed (TSG).

Mr. Anatolie Palade, President of A.O. “Centrul de Consultanta in Afaceri” informed AGEPI colleagues about the specific activities to be implemented within the project in the Republic of Moldova and invited the Agency to collaborate on topics of common interest.

AGEPI Director General confirmed the institution’s opening for any initiatives that come to support local producers in business development and announced the availability of AGEPI specialists to contribute with expertise in the GI field in all activities organized by the project.

Subsequently, an exchange of views and ideas on the format and tools that could be used in the implementation of the project activities was made, the parties agreeing to inform each other about all actions to promote the geographical indications system among the indigenous agricultural producers.

The project “Sustainable Agricultural Trade Network in Black Sea Basin” is a regional project funded by the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program 2014-2020 under the priority 1.2 “Increasing cross-border links for trade and modernization in the agricultural and related sectors of the Black Sea Basin”. The project’s Lead partner is the Traders’ Association Of Thessaloniki (Greece), in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Burgas (Bulgaria), Galati Foundation For The Promotion Of Small And Medium Sized Private Enterprises (Romania), Asociatia Obsteasca “Centrul de Consultanta in Afaceri” (Moldova), Demirkoy Municipality (Turkey) and Institute of Market Problems and Economic & Ecological Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The project’s main objective is increasing the capacity of local producers and strengthening cooperation between business, producers’ organizations and local authorities for regional branding and transnational trading of agricultural products.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Increasing cross-border trade opportunities for agricultural and agro-industrial products.
  • Increasing the capacity of local producers for marking products with protected geographical indications.

The project “Sustainable Agricultural Trade Network in Black Sea Basin – AgriTradeNet” was launched on 02.08.2018 and has an implementation period of 27 months. More information is available on the project website at www.agritradenet.eu
