AGEPI Participated in the Events Dedicated to the World Consumer Rights Day

The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated on March 15, in two events dedicated to World Consumer Rights Day.

The first event, a roundtable entitled “Fair and responsible AI for consumers”, was organized by the State Inspectorate for Supervision of Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection. The roundtable was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the heads of the authorities with duties in the field of consumer protection, representatives of NGOs and other interested authorities. During the event, topics related to consumer protection, surveillance and control actions to prevent violations of consumer rights, streamlining the activities of competent authorities in the field of consumer protection, personal data protection in the context of online sales and artificial intelligence were discussed.

Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director General of AGEPI, participated in the discussions on artificial intelligence and consumer rights, emphasizing the importance of a responsible approach and the need to properly regulate the use of technology for the benefit of consumers.

The second event, a workshop entitled “Consumer protection and the circular economy”, was organized by the Jean Monnet Chair on the Europeanization of Moldova through a circular economy that works for consumers / ECOCONS Project implemented by ASEM, in cooperation with Association of Legal Culture Henri Capitant Moldova “AHCCJ” and the European Institute for Initiatives, Reforms and Education “ASPIRE”. The purpose of this event was to raise public awareness of the importance of knowing people’s rights as consumers, being also a good opportunity for mobilization in order to protect them. During the workshop, topics were discussed, such as consumer rights within the circular economy; judicial practice at the level of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Justice; judicial practice on the protection of consumers’ economic interests; the advantages of the circular economy and commercial guarantees, etc.

Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director General of AGEPI, presented a communication in which she highlighted the importance of intellectual property in protecting consumer rights and promoting innovation and the circular economy.

These events provided a platform for constructive discussions and for identifying solutions for the protection and promotion of consumer interests in an ever-changing environment.
