On October 7 this year, the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) Octavian Apostol, had a working meeting with representatives of the State Registration Chamber (SRC).
The purpose of the meeting was to establish an efficient platform of cooperation among institutions in order to promote among economic agents the information with respect to intellectual property protection. In this regard, they identified several possibilities such as placement at the premises of the State Registration Chamber of a billboard on the benefits of trademark registration and other intellectual property objects, and placement of AGEPI leaflets in the informative set received by the economic agent after the registration of the company with SRC.
AGEPI Director General Octavian Apostol, was shown convinced that these actions will increase the degree of information of economic agents on the field of intellectual property.
Also, in the meeting, was presented the Unique Search Program (USP) for trademarks DoRa, developed by the AGEPI specialists, which aims to facilitate the identification of signs already registered as a trademark both by nationally and internationally.
Considering that under Article 9 of Law No. 220 of 19.10.2007 on State Registration of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs, it is prohibited the registration of a trade name if it conflicts with a trademark in the Republic of Moldova or a foreign mark that extends its effects on the territory of the country, using USP DoRa will facilitate the work of SRC experts in the examination of firm names proposed for registration and will exclude cases involving the use of a registered mark, as a trade name.
Finally, it was agreed on the drafting and signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement between the AGEPI and SRC.
