AGEPI and SAKPATENTI, at a New Stage of Cooperation

In the context of the working visit to Tbilisi, Georgia, the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, participated in a round table organized in the precincts of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI), during which the bilateral cooperation between the two offices was discussed.

Thus, during the meeting, the current state of cooperation between the two institutions was addressed. The parties made an exchange of information and opinions on the latest legislative and institutional developments in the field of intellectual property, and also on the ongoing projects.

In accordance with the agenda of the event, topics of common interest were addressed with reference to the important areas of the intellectual property protection system, such as the area of geographical indications, in particular the adoption of rules and procedures, the next steps of cooperation within the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Georgia on Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications, the evolution of the legislation of both countries, including internal procedures. The field of inventions was also discussed, especially aspects related to the Agreement on Validation of European Patents.

At the end of the meeting, the Director General of AGEPI thanked the President of SAKPATENTI, Soso Giorgadze, for his involvement and openness regarding the intensification of cooperation with the State Agency on Intellectual Property, noting that for the Republic of Moldova, Georgia is an extremely important partner, because we have many projects in common and only with joint efforts we can achieve the goals more effectively.

We mention that, on February 1, 2023, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia signed the Agreement on Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications. The signing of the document in question will contribute to expanding the areas of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Georgia and will provide new opportunities for exporters of domestic products from both countries.
