Cooperation between rights holders, CMOs and users must be transparent and responsible

The European Union Project “Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova in cooperation with the State Agency for Intellectual Property (AGEPI) organized a Seminar with the generic title "Cooperation between right holders, collective management organisations and users: the experience and practice in the European Union and Moldova". The event took place on June 12, 2018, and brought together circa 40 representatives of public authorities, right holders, collective management organisations (CMO) and users.

The aim of the seminar was to increase knowledge in the field of copyright and exchange experiences and best practices between different institutions and develop cooperation between collective management organizations, rights holders and users.

At the opening of ceremony, the Director-General of AGEPI, Ms. Lilia Bolocan, mentioned that this seminar will facilitate dialogue between different actors in the collective management system, and allow an exchange of views that will increase synergies and collaboration.

The Team leader of the EU Project, Mr. Maximilian Foedinger, spoke about the economic potential of the Republic of Moldova in terms of the value of intellectual property, making a comparsion with Austria. He stressed that both countries do not have natural resources or large territories, but they do have intelligent people and people are the main resource of a country that can be used to generate wealth for the economy, through intellectual activity.

”The currency of 21st Century is intellectual property and CMOs have a role to play. To be effective, rights holders and CMOs must have efficient administrative and financial management procedures and the relations between them must be transparent and responsible”, said Maximilian Foedinger.

Throughout the day, the participants at the seminar addressed questions related to the development of the CMO system in the Republic of Moldova, respect for copyright and neighboring rights from the perspective of the Moldovan CMOs, rights and obligations of users, case studies and the relationship between CMOs and users in accordance with Directive 2014/26/ EU.

The EU Project ”Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova is funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium of Archidata LLC (Italy), European Profiles S.C.
