Today, April 23, is World Book and Copyright Day, a special day dedicated to celebrating the world’s literary culture and heritage, as well as recognizing the importance of protecting copyright. The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) sends its most sincere congratulations to all lovers of reading and writing in the Republic of Moldova and around the world.

Every year since 1995, on April 23, UNESCO celebrates the incredible power of authors to model minds, stimulate evolutions and generate knowledge through writing. This day was chosen in memory of three great authors of the world - William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega - who died on the same day.

Through the festivities dedicated to this event, UNESCO aims to promote the right and freedom of reading, encourage and stimulate it, attract young people to cultural institutions, to the library and to books.

This day is also an opportunity to reflect on the vital role that books play in the intellectual and cultural development of individuals and societies. These are powerful tools that allow us to explore new ideas, travel through time and space, and develop our ability to imagine new and better worlds. So on this special day, we celebrate not just books and their authors, but their power to transform and enrich our lives.

At the same time, in the Republic of Moldova, this day also marks Librarian’s Day, a special occasion to recognize the valuable work of librarians and to congratulate them for their efforts in promoting reading and access to information. Librarians across the country play a critical role in the development of our society, providing access to information, educating and inspiring generations of readers and writers.
