The Forty-Sixth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (WIPO/GRTKF/IC/46) is held in hybrid format from February 27 to March 3, 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The working agenda of GRTKF/IC/46 covered issues related to:
- Panel of Indigenous and Local Communities;
- Operation of the Voluntary Fund for Accredited Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities;
- Report on the Ad Hoc Expert Group Workshop on Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions held on 26 February 2023.
A number of documents related to traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions are examined during the session, including: the Report on the Compilation of Materials on Databases Relating to Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge, the Report on the Compilation of Materials on Disclosure Regimes Relating to Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge, the Legal Principles Related to an International Instrument, Identifying Examples of Traditional Knowledge to Stimulate a Discussion of What Should Be Protectable Subject Matter and What is not Intended to be Protected.
Particular importance is given to the document regulating the protection of traditional knowledge, as well as the document regulating the protection of traditional cultural expressions, these being reviewed and supplemented in the context of the proposals of the participating countries exposed during the session.
Within the framework of the committee, the State Agency on Intellectual Property is represented by Diana Stici, Head of the Legal Department and Dorina Colsatschi, Head of the Legislation Division.
