The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), in partnership with the Office of Professional Development and Training of the U.S. Department of Justice, held on May 6 a roundtable entitled: “Intellectual Property Rights in Moldova: Civil and Criminal Perspectives”.

In the opening, the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu mentioned that in the context of the progress of information technologies, the enforcement of intellectual property rights is subjected to major challenges, and the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit products has become very accessible, thus only combining the efforts of the authorities with responsibilities in this field can lead to the diminution of these phenomena. He also assured that AGEPI makes every effort to raise public awareness on these phenomena by organizing special trainings, seminars and courses for pupils, students, teachers, librarians, experts in various activity fields.

During the roundtable, the principal consultant from the Communication and Training Division of AGEPI, Andrei Moisei spoke about the harmonization of the current normative framework of the Republic of Moldova with the international policies in the field of enforcement of intellectual property rights.

The event was attended by prosecutors, lawyers and specialists in the field of IP with presentations, discussions, case studies focused on criminal and civil aspects of enforcement of intellectual property rights, and current and far-reaching challenges in this field have been addressed.
