AGEPI presents the Activity Report for 2018

The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) announces the launch of the Annual Report, reflecting the institution’s complex and multilateral activity throughout 2018.

From the perspective of the period covered by the Report, the Agency’s major role and contribution to the development and assertion in the Republic of Moldova of an integrated and viable intellectual property (IP) protection system comparable to those existing in countries with long traditions in the field. Among the most significant events and achievements are the reformation of AGEPI from a public institution into a central administrative authority subordinated to the Government, the start of the last (3rd) stage of implementation of the National Intellectual Property Strategy until 2020, the successful completion of the EU Technical Assistance Project “Support to Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova” (EU Project “SEIPR”), the entry into force for the Republic of Moldova of the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works of for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled, the initiation of amendments in the sense of reducing the terms of registration/patenting for some IP objects and establishing clear rules on collective management of copyright and related rights, the improvement of the regulations regarding the activity of the corps of authorized IP attorneys, including the approval of their Code of Ethics and Conduct, etc.

The current edition contains relevant statistical data on the results obtained in 2018, presented in an attractive and dynamic format, on each activity segment of AGEPI, namely: examination of applications and grant of titles of protection for various industrial property objects (inventions, plant varieties, trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications), activity in the field of copyright, in the legal field, in the field of promotion of the national intellectual property system, international cooperation and European integration and internal management.

AGEPI has invested great resources and efforts in promoting the intellectual property system, with priority being to raise the degree of culture, increase the level of knowledge and develop the skills of citizens, especially the younger generation, and the business environment in the field of intellectual property. In this context, we should mention the first stage of the National Campaign for Pupils “Studying Intellectual Property Can Be Exciting”, the continuation of the National Campaign on Raising Awareness of Pupils from Pre-university Institutions of the Republic “Stop Piracy and Counterfeiting”, organized in partnership with the MECC and with the support of the EU Project “SEIPR”, organization of the Photo Contest with the theme “Women Who Inspire” in the context of marking the World Intellectual Property Day “Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity” and others.

The report also contains the AGEPI priority actions for 2019 aimed at contributing to the development and growth of performance in all areas of competence and ensuring the continuity of the implementation process of the National Intellectual Property Strategy until 2020.
