AGEPI in Geneva: The Republic of Moldova Highlighted Its Successes in Intellectual Property Education among Youth

02/02/2024

The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) managed to publicize the significant contribution of the Republic of Moldova to consolidation of intellectual property knowledge among young people, by actively participating in the 16th session of the Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE), organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The event took place from January 31 to February 2, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The presentation, made on the first day of the Advisory Committee, was delivered by Eugeniu Rusu, Director General of AGEPI. During the presentation, the efforts made by the Republic of Moldova in promoting awareness and respect for intellectual property were highlighted, being mentioned the strategic campaigns carried out in this direction. The Director General of AGEPI emphasized the institution’s direct involvement in organizing educational events, workshops and competitions for pupils and students, with the aim of encouraging respect for intellectual property rights, and also of stimulating creativity and innovation among young people.

Over three days, the ACE Committee included discussions on the experiences of WIPO member countries, focusing on awareness-building activities and strategic campaigns for building respect for intellectual property. An important point of discussion was also the WIPO’s legislative assistance, with a focus on drafting national laws of enforcement of intellectual property rights. Success stories of member countries were also presented, highlighting capacity building and support from WIPO for training activities at national and regional levels.

A special adjacent event, called “ACE Cinema”, took place within the ACE Committee, where AGEPI presented three videos illustrating the efforts made in the fight against piracy and counterfeiting. These videos provided a detailed insight into the institution’s commitment and demonstrated concrete actions taken to protect intellectual property rights. Thus, AGEPI managed to convey a strong message on the negative consequences of infringements in this field and the importance of protecting intellectual creations.

The participation of the Republic of Moldova in this session of the Advisory Committee represented a recognition of the firm commitment to the promotion and protection of intellectual property, thus contributing to the consolidation of knowledge in this field both at the national and international level.
