Today, December 13, 2018, at the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) took place the working visit of the TAIEX Programme expert Bartolomeo Filadelfia, within the framework of the Mission dealing with the field of protected geographical indications (GIs) and appellations of origin (AO) in the wine sector and wine labeling.
The TAIEX Programme expert’s working visit agenda included meetings with AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan, experts from the Departments of the State Agency on Intellectual Property and representatives of the National Vine and Wine Office.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the existing legal framework in the Republic of Moldova in the light of the TAIEX expert’s experience in the field of preventing and combating frauds of protected geographical indications (GIs) and appellations of origin.
During the discussions, particular attention was paid to the stages of registration and protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the aspects related to the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the field of GIs and AO.
It should be noted that the TAIEX Programme expert’s Mission dealing with the field of protected geographical indications (GIs) and appellations of origin (AO) in the wine sector and wine labeling, provides a series of trainings for the employees of the National Vine and Wine Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, the National Agency for Food Safety, the State Agency on Intellectual Property, wine producer groups and associations in the field.
The programme is based on the following key areas:
- Current situation in the Republic of Moldova on geographical indications in the wine sector and wine labeling;
- EU legislation and components needed to harmonize national regulations on protected geographical indications and appellations of origin (PAO and PGIs) in the wine sector, etc.
