Meeting of the Authorized Attorneys in Intellectual Property

The meeting of the Authorized Attorneys in Intellectual Property was held on December 11, 2018, in the conference hall of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI).

The meeting was moderated by Lilia Bolocan, Director General of AGEPI, who mentioned the important role incumbent on authorized attorneys and thanked everyone for their participation and fruitful collaboration. Lilia Bolocan also mentioned that one of the fields of collaboration with a positive end was the elaboration of the Code of Ethics and Conduct of the authorized attorneys. Moreover, it was noted that AGEPI initiated the elaboration of a series of amendments aimed at improving the legislative framework.

According to the agenda of the working meeting, statistical data on the activity of the authorized attorneys during the year 2018, information on the approval of the Code of Ethics and Conduct of the authorized attorneys in intellectual property, the draft Law amending and supplementing the Law No. 50-XVI of 07.03.2008 on the Protection of Inventions were presented.

At the same time, the Guide on the examination of trademark applications as well as information on the procedure for examination of the list of products, for which registration of trademarks is sought, including protected geographical indications, and amendments to the Common Regulations under the Madrid Agreement.

The authorized attorneys have actively participated in the debates on the subjects included in the agenda, while also presenting proposals and recommendations on the draft amendments proposed to be implemented in the special laws on intellectual property.

The professional activity of the authorized attorneys consists in the representation of the natural and legal persons under the terms of the mandate contract or of another contract with similar content and/or the legal power of attorney, but also in the provision of the necessary assistance in the field of protection of intellectual property objects (trademarks, inventions, industrial designs, plant varieties, topographies of integrated circuits, appellations of origin, geographical indications, traditional specialties guaranteed).
