The 4th meeting of the Republic of Moldova – Great Britain Geographical Indications Sub-Committee took place on December 16, 2025, organized in a videoconference format.
The meeting was chaired, on behalf of the Republic of Moldova, by Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), and on behalf of Great Britain, by Simon Crabbe, Head of Geographical Indications and Alcoholic Drinks Directorate within the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The meeting was attended by experts from AGEPI, as well as representatives of the Customs Service and the National Food Safety Agency, who presented pertinent solutions within the thematic discussions on the implementation and development of the geographical indications system.
During the meeting, both parties presented their views on recent developments in the field of geographical indications in their countries. The British side reported on the updates at the national level, including the registration of four new geographical indications in the United Kingdom. In turn, the Republic of Moldova presented the actions taken during the year to promote geographical indications, with an emphasis on information activities, strengthening the institutional framework and supporting producers.
At the same time, the parties exchanged views on the information reflected in the national registers of geographical indications and assessed the progress made in bilateral cooperation in this area.
Finally, further actions for the development of the geographical indications system were established, being outlined the concrete steps and responsibilities of each party for the further implementation of the commitments undertaken and the strengthening of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Great Britain in the field of geographical indications.
The GIs Sub-Committee was established in accordance with Article 276 of the Strategic Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, signed in Chisinau on 24 December 2020 and provisionally entered into force on 1 January 2021.
In accordance with its mandate, the Geographical Indications Sub-Committee is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Agreement in the field of geographical indications and serves as a platform for cooperation and dialogue on GIs between the Great Britain and the Republic of Moldova.
