On April 26, Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrate World Intellectual Property Day to honor the contribution that intellectual property (IP) makes to innovation and creativity.
This year, we celebrate the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work.
Women and Intellectual Property: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity is the theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2023.
Women in all regions are shaping the world through their imagination, ingenuity and hard work, but often face significant challenges in accessing the knowledge, skills, resources and support they need to thrive.
Women are everywhere: driving scientific breakthroughs, setting new creative trends, building businesses and transforming our world.
Women bring new perspectives and visions, yet few women use the intellectual property system. This fact means that too few women benefit from the benefits of the IP field. We therefore need to encourage more women to use the IP system to protect and add value to their work. Thus, in this way, we will be able to:
- produce more and better technologies that will benefit everyone,
- develop profitable businesses led by women,
- support economic recovery, etc.
When innovation, creativity and business are inclusive and embrace new ideas and perspectives, we all win. Diversity is our strength. Everyone, everywhere can use intellectual property rights to protect their technology, brands and creativity.
World Intellectual Property Day 2023 is an opportunity to celebrate all talented women around the world. The program of events proposed by the World Intellectual Property Organization on this occasion also includes the events that will take place at the national level.
In order to highlight the potential of women in our country, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) will organize a series of activities dedicated to this world-class event. We will return with more details later.
Let's work for gender parity in IP and support the ingenuity and creativity of women and girls everywhere. Together, we can build a better “tomorrow”.
The World Intellectual Property Day has been marked since 2000, and April 26 represents the day on which the Convention establishing the WIPO (1970) came into force.
