Approximately 90 doctoral candidates and professors from the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu” attended a training seminar entitled “Intellectual Property – A Tool to Exploit Research Results”, organized by the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), on 2 and 3 February this year. The seminar aimed to familiarize the participants with the national intellectual property protection system.

During the seminar, AGEPI specialists presented the normative and legislative framework in the field of protection of intellectual property objects in the Republic of Moldova, in particular of inventions, intellectual property as a tool to exploit research results, management of innovations and intellectual property in Universities. An important role in the process of creation-protection-exploitation of inventions appertains to Offices of Technology Transfer (OTT) in educational institutions. Thus, during the seminar, the participants were familiarized with the services that can be provided by these offices, as well as sources of information and documentation in the field of patents, namely the platform “Patent Landscape”, created and managed by AGEPI.

The participants in the seminar were active in debates and discussions on the presentations heard, being particularly interested in the protection of medicinal preparations, the procedure foreseen by the legislation in the field for the protection of inventions in the Republic of Moldova, the rights granted by the patent for invention, etc.

The conduct of activities to disseminate knowledge on the need for protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights is part of the process of training students and doctoral candidates in the field of intellectual property, being the main objective of the Agreement on Cooperation between the AGEPI and the SUMPh ”Nicolae Testemitanu”, signed in 2009.
