The Workshop of the European Intellectual Property Prosecutors Network (EIPPN) was held from 12 to 13 September 2024, at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, organized by the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights and hosted by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The main theme of the event was “Global Experiences in IP Crime Prosecution”. The participants took part in presentations and working sessions dedicated to the latest developments and best practices in combating crimes in the field, providing a platform for the exchange of effective solutions and relevant case studies.
The EIPPN Workshop brought together prosecutors from the European Union, specialized in the investigation and prosecution of intellectual property crimes. This year, in addition to the EU Member States, representatives from other WIPO Member States and EU4IP Project beneficiary countries were also invited. Thus, prosecutors from Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine (candidate countries for EU accession) were present, as well as from Armenia, China, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Korea and other countries.
The Republic of Moldova was represented by prosecutors Inga Furtuna and Marian Tomic from the Prosecutor General’s Office, members of the Observatory on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (OEIPR). Their participation in this event highlights the commitment of the Republic of Moldova to strengthen the institutional capacities of the authorities responsible for the enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The participation of the delegation from the Republic of Moldova in the EIPPN Workshop was possible thanks to the support provided by the Project “Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine” (EU4IP), funded by the European Union and implemented by EUIPO.
The EIPPN Workshop supports the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT), which tackles the most significant threats posed by organized and serious international crime groups. EMPACT strengthens cooperation between national authorities, EU institutions and bodies, and international partners. Combating intellectual property crime (#IPCRIME) is one of the main priorities in the current 2022-2025 cycle.
