The third edition of the International Innovation Conference entitled “Intellectual Property - Innovations - Quality of Life” is over in Chisinau.
The event took place in the period 15-16 November and was organized by the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization and with the support of the European Union Technical Assistance Project “Support to Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova”.
The second day of the International Innovation Conference was moderated by the Deputy Director General of AGEPI Andrei Popa.
The conference brought together representatives of the European Patent Office, World Intellectual Property Organization, Patent and Trademark Office of Romania, Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI), Intellectual Property Office of Montenegro, as well as representatives of the institutions and organizations that activate in the field of research, innovation and higher education, residents of scientific-technological parks and innovative incubators, experts in the field of intellectual property and representatives of the business environment.
During the four thematic sessions, various aspects regarding the role of intellectual property and innovations in increasing the competitiveness of industries and services were discussed and highlighted, the emphasis being placed on some important areas of the national economy: information technology sector, agro-industrial sector, etc. Case studies have been presented in the given field, resulting in the promotion of competitive products and services on the market, which improve the quality of citizens’ lives.
Also, topics related to the contribution of innovations and intellectual property to regional development and job creation, regional development policies and efficient use of the national intellectual property system were discussed, and participants in the Conference had the unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with the experience of Austria, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, but also with the activity carried out by WIPO in this field.
Particular attention was paid to mechanisms to support innovation and technology transfer activity, exchange of best practices on the role of the state in encouraging creativity and innovation activity, including through financial-credit instruments. The mechanisms for stimulating creativity at corporate level, the constraints and barriers encountered by the business environment, especially in the SMEs sector, in the process of implementing the innovations and technology transfer and ways to overcome them, which aim at improving the competitiveness of the national economy were also highlighted. It was presented the state policy and methods applied in France and the smaller Western European countries in the field of innovation promotion, as well as the Republic of Moldova’s experience in this field.
One of the sessions of the Conference was dedicated to issues related to the role of Intellectual Property Offices and other public institutions in promoting knowledge and raising awareness among different categories of citizens in the given field, encouraging creativity and building an innovative entrepreneurial behavior of enterprises, especially in the SMEs sector; training programs for young entrepreneurs and managers in order to develop an innovative culture and a mature innovation environment in society, etc.
The International Innovation Conference is part of the program of events organized during the week of the International Specialized Exhibition “INFOINVENT”, 15th edition, which takes place from 15 to 18 November, at Moldexpo.
