AGEPI participated in the Celebration of International Translation Day with a Communication about Copyright

10/01/2024

The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated in the meeting dedicated to the International Translation Day, organized by the Association of Professional Translators of the Republic of Moldova. The event brought together interpreters, translators and language professionals, members of the association, to discuss the challenges and opportunities in this sector.

During the meeting, Andrei Moisei, principal consultant in the Communication and Training Division of AGEPI, gave a presentation entitled “Copyright, Limits and Exceptions”. Discussions touched on topical issues such as the need to protect original creations, including translations, and the importance of respecting copyright in the practice of translators and interpreters. Participants had the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss how translated works can be better protected in accordance with national and international law.

International Translation Day is celebrated annually on September 30th and was celebrated for the first time in 1991, at the initiative of the International Federation of Translators (FIT), under the auspices of UNESCO. This day is an important occasion to recognize the essential role of translators in facilitating communication between different cultures and promoting multilingualism. The role of translators is becoming increasingly important in an interconnected world where global communication requires high-quality translation and interpretation services.

In the Republic of Moldova, the Association of Professional Translators was founded in January 1998 and is the main organization that supports and promotes professional translators of all profiles.

AGEPI, through its active participation in such events, demonstrates its commitment to the protection of copyright and the support provided to translators in the correct understanding and application of intellectual property legislation.
