The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania (OSIM) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding on Acceleration of Patent Procedure.
The document was signed by AGEPI General Director Octavian Apostol and OSIM Director General Adriana Aldescu in a bilateral meeting held in Bucharest, on 26 May this year.
The Memorandum will allow the two offices to use the results of the examination of the patent applications filed with AGEPI or OSIM in a reciprocal way, thereby contributing to the reduction of the time limits for the examination of applications filed with the second office and the increase of the quality of the issued patents. As a result, applicants will be able to obtain patents more quickly.
AGEPI Director General Octavian Apostol said that this procedure will allow offices to function more efficiently and benefit from each other’s previous work by reducing the workload and improving the quality of patents.
The patent procedure acceleration pilot program for applications submitted to AGEPI and OSIM will be applied as of 1 September 2017.
