The working visit of three European experts within the framework of the Project “Support to Implementation of Agreements between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union” is held in Chisinau between May 31 to June 10 this year: Eduardo Fano, expert in industrial property law, Gerda Leonaviciene, expert in copyright and related rights, Linda Scales, expert in the field relating to the enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The Project “Support to Implementation of Agreements between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union” was released in 2008 and will finish at the end of this year. The major objective of the project is to support public authorities in the Republic of Moldova in achieving the priorities established by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA), signed in 1998, and the Action Plan of Neighbourhood Policy, signed in 2005. Within these activities, the project includes a number of studies on the harmonization of the sectoral legislation in order to address the main challenges faced by ministries and public organizations in the process of harmonization of legislation.
During the visit to AGEPI, the European experts have examined the compatibility of the national legislation on intellectual property with the acquis communautaire in the field, and will present some recommendations on adjustment of the national system of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights to the European one.
The European experts have held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Customs Service, the Prosecutor General, Supreme Court of Justice, Court of Appeal, National Medicines Agency of the Republic of Moldova, associations for the collective administration of copyright and related rights, etc., having been put in question various practical aspects in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Moldova.
The study visit of the European experts will end with a round table organized on 10 June this year (starting from 10.00) in the conference hall of AGEPI (Chisinau, 24 / 1, Andrei Doga str.), which will be attended by representatives of the public authorities responsible for the protection and enforcement of IP rights in the Republic of Moldova, participants in the bilateral meetings of this visit.
