World Intellectual Property Day, celebrated in the Republic of Moldova

Music, dance, contests, innovative products, robot battle and laboratory experiments. In that way was marked on April 26 - World Intellectual Property Day. The event was organized by the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and took place at the Commercial Center Shopping MallDova, where over 300 persons participated.

The manifestation began with a flash mob entitled “Innovation – Improving Lives”, with the participation of a group of young people of more than 100 persons, from the Republican Center for Children and Youth “Artico”.

After the flash mob, AGEPI Director General, Octavian Apostol, spoke to those present about the importance and role of intellectual property in encouraging innovation and creativity, as well as mentioning some of the best-known inventions developed over the years that have helped improve man’s life. Octavian Apostol urged the participants in the event to show great ambition, courage, perseverance, and work hard, because only in this way can we achieve beautiful results, including creative ideas can be implemented. Finally, AGEPI General Director congratulated all those who work in areas of activity directly or tangentially related to the creation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property, wishing them inspiration and new achievements in their professional activity.

Further, all those present at the event had the opportunity to participate in a series of contests with prizes, to discover some innovative products, to pursue a battle between the robots and, last but not least, to admire an exceptional show with laboratory experiments that have shown that science can be very distractive.

Also, on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day, AGEPI organized open lessons at several educational institutions in Chisinau, namely the “Gheorghe Asachi” Theoretical High School, “Mircea Eliade” High School, “Prometheus” High School, High School of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and Financial-Banking College. AGEPI specialists spoke to pupils about the importance of intellectual property and the role of innovation for a better life.

World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated on April 26 in all Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The theme of the World Intellectual Property Day is established annually by WIPO, and in 2017 the main title was: Innovation – Improving Lives, by which it was desired to discuss issues related to how innovation makes our lives healthier, safer and more comfortable, turning problems into progress.

World Intellectual Property Day is marked since 2000, and April 26 represents the day when the Convention Establishing WIPO (1970) entered into force.
