Republic of Moldova - WIPO Cooperation Priorities, discussed during a Meeting in Geneva

The Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) Lilia Bolocan had a bilateral meeting with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry.

The meeting took place in the context of participation of the AGEPI Director General in the 58th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which takes place from September 24 to October 2, in Geneva.

Thus, during the meeting, the latest developments of AGEPI and WIPO in the field of intellectual property system development were reviewed. Discussions were also held on WIPO-Republic of Moldova cooperation priorities. The Director General of WIPO congratulated the Moldovan delegation with the successes registered by AGEPI in the implementation of WIPO programs and showed his willingness to continue bilateral cooperation. AGEPI Director General confirmed AGEPI’s commitment to continue its efforts to align with European standards and welcomed WIPO’s openness to further support the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to strengthen institutional capacities in the field of intellectual property, to improve the regulatory framework and also to raise the level of culture and respect in the reference field. At the same time, they discussed about the organization in the Republic of Moldova of the second edition of the annual Regional Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement and also the organization in the Republic of Moldova in 2020 of the International Conference on Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement, the largest international forum in the field. Also, Lilia Bolocan informed the high official about the state of implementation of the National Intellectual Property Strategy that will be finalized in 2020 and the intention of the Chisinau authorities to launch the process of developing a new strategy to which WIPO’s contribution and experience will be welcome. Finally, AGEPI Director General invited the Director General of OMPI to the Republic of Moldova in November 2019 on the occasion of a new edition of the International Specialized Exhibition “INFOINVENT”.

Also, according to the schedule of visit to Geneva, AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan had a meeting with the Deputy Director General of WIPO Wang Binying, with whom she discussed about WIPO’s programs in the field of trademarks and industrial design, including information projects in which the Republic of Moldova could also be involved.
