During a working visit to Brussels, Republic of Moldova was appreciated by the European Commission representatives for its achievements in the field of intellectual property. The meeting was attended by a team of experts from public institutions involved in the implementation of the Agreement on the establishment of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA Agreement), and a representative of AGEPI.
The meeting focused on intellectual property rights (IPRs) was attended by representatives of Directorate General for Trade (DG Trade) and Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG Grow). Country responsible for the IPR sector in the DG Trade, referring to the efforts of our country to raise the level of understanding and enforcement of intellectual property rights, said that Republic of Moldova is among the leading partners in the implementation of reforms at the chapter of intellectual property with a high degree of harmonization of national legislation with EU Directives and Regulations. European Commission representatives participating in the meeting reiterated the EU’s support for Moldova’s integration process and encouraged the Moldovan institutions to strengthen their capacities, including by accessing available EU assistance programs.
The program of the visit covered working meetings with representatives of sectoral directorates of the European Commission on priority fields for Moldova-EU dialogue in the context of the DCFTA, including agricultural and agro-food sector, where also was approached the geographical indications system in the context of the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union on the Protection of Geographical Indications of Agricultural Products and Foodstuffs; technical regulations and standardization; trade in goods and services; public procurements; competitive aspects, etc. The visit was organized by the Ministry of Economy in the EU project to support the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of the Association Agreement/DCFTA, one of its objectives being also strengthening of relations between the public institutions of the Republic of Moldova involved in the process with the target structures of the European Commission.
