On March 6 this year, in Chisinau, takes place the working visit of the President of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI), Nikoloz Gogilidze, in order to strengthen Moldovan-Georgian cooperation relations in the field of intellectual property.
The visit program began with a bilateral meeting between the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Octavian Apostol and President of SAKPATENTI, Nikoloz Gogilidze.
Later, the officials attended a solemn meeting held in the meeting room of AGEPI. In the opening, AGEPI Director General, Octavian Apostol thanked the SAKPATENTI President for accepting the invitation to come on a visit to Chisinau, noting the need to intensify cooperation between the two offices. “I am convinced that your visit will bring the dialogue between Moldova and Georgia in the field of intellectual property to a qualitatively new level. Your presence in the AGEPI gives you the opportunity to get familiar in place with the peculiarities of the national system of intellectual property”, said Octavian Apostol.
In turn, SAKPATENTI President, Nikoloz Gogilidze stressed that this visit is a perfect opportunity for continuing relations between Offices. “For Georgia, Moldova is an extremely important partner for the following reasons: we have the same challenges; our joint effort to develop the intellectual property system; defending the country’s interests internationally; we have many joint projects, such as the approximation of national legislation to the international one. Thus, with joint efforts we can achieve goals more effectively”, added Nikoloz Gogilidze.
Further, during the meeting, AGEPI specialists made an overview of the latest developments in the national intellectual property system of the Republic of Moldova, reviewing the successes achieved by the Agency and the challenges facing the current stage in achieving the objectives.
Subsequently, the SAKPATENTI President had a meeting with the heads of AGEPI departments, in which they discussed practical issues related to the protection of industrial property objects; assessment of the state of cooperation between AGEPI-SAKPATENTI to the current stage and identification of priority directions of cooperation between the two offices; promotion of common interests within the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other international organizations. They also held talks on the Draft Moldova - Georgia Agreement on the Mutual Protection of Geographical Indications, aspects relating to validation of European patents and enforcement of copyright and related rights. Also, AGEPI specialists presented a series of proposals that could form the basis of a bilateral action plan for the period 2017-2018.
Under the program, SAKPATENTI President will have meetings with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Eduard Grama and Director of the National Office of Wine and Vine, Gheorghe Arpentin, where they will discuss about the national system of geographical indications, which is one of the key priorities of the State Agency on Intellectual Property.
In 2013, AGEPI and SAKPATENTI signed a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Georgia in the field of intellectual property.
