Every year, on April 26, is marked the World Intellectual Property Day to promote the role of intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, plant varieties, geographical indications, and copyright), in stimulating innovation and creativity.
World Intellectual Property Day theme is set annually by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the 2017 theme is: Innovation – Improving Lives.
In the events proposed worldwide by WIPO are also the manifestations which will take place at national level and which will be organized by the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) in order to place a value on the potential and role of intellectual property for economic, cultural and social development of our country.
The list of activities dedicated to World Intellectual Property Day includes the traditional Annual Intellectual Property Symposium “AGEPI Readings”, which will take place on 19-20 April this year, in the conference hall of AGEPI. The theme of this year edition of the Symposium is focused on current issues of protection, respect for and exploitation of intellectual property, including in the online environment, as well as staff training and refresher training in the field. The event will be attended by specialists of the AGEPI, scientific and innovation centers, universities, professional associations, authorities of the central public authorities of the Republic of Moldova, and representatives of intellectual property offices in Romania, Georgia and the Russian Federation.
On April 26, the marking of this global feast will begin with the organization of open lectures in several high schools in Chisinau. AGEPI specialists will talk to pupils about the role of intellectual property and the role of innovation for a better life.
Also on April 26, in the center of the capital, in the Cathedral Square, at 15:30, AGEPI will organize a flash mob entitled “Innovation – Improving Lives”. The event will be attended by a group of over 100 young people, from the Republican Center for Children and Youth “Artico”. Also, in public places in Chisinau will be distributed information flyers about the marking of World Intellectual Property Day and about the events organized by AGEPI on this occasion.
The program of the manifestations dedicated to this holiday will culminate in a special event organized by AGEPI, at the Commercial Center Shopping MallDova, beginning with 17:00. All those present at the event will have the occasion to listen to good music, to support young performers, to participate in a series of contests with prizes, to discover several innovative products, to watch a battle between robots and, not least, to admire an exceptional show with laboratory experiments that will demonstrate that science can be distractive. In the event may participate any person interested to learn more news from the miraculous world of inventions and intellectual property.

World Intellectual Property Day is marked since 2000, and April 26 is the day in which the Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (1970) entered into force.
