The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova participates in the 58th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO

The 58th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) takes place from September 24 to October 2, in Geneva. About 1,000 delegates from 191 WIPO Member States, including directors of intellectual property offices, ambassadors, ministers, leaders of intergovernmental international organizations, etc., attend the current edition to approve the strategic development directions of the Organization for the next biennial.

The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova is headed by Lilia Bolocan, Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI). The delegation includes the representative of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva, Iulian Grigorita and Liliana Vieru, Head of the AGEPI External Relations and Promotion Department.

During the current session, several issues of importance for WIPO will be examined, including the adoption of the WIPO Program and Budget for the 2019-2020 biennial, opening of new WIPO external offices, convening of a diplomatic conference for the adoption of a design law treaty, etc. The participants will also discuss intellectual property and genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore, as well as issues related to global development. At the core of WIPO operations are the global intellectual property services it administers - systems based on 26 WIPO treaties that help innovators and creators to protect and promote their products around the world. The delegates will review the operations and analyze the future work of the International Patent System, the International Trademark System, the International Design System, the International System of Appellations of Origin and the Arbitration and Mediation Center.

The 58th Series of the Annual Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization was opened by the Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Duong Chi Dung who was elected as Chairman of the WIPO General Assembly for the years 2018-2019. Later, WIPO Director General Francis Gurry reported on the global intellectual property developments recorded by the Organization throughout the past year and noted the increased interest in intellectual property worldwide.

According to the agenda of the meeting, Member States have presented country declarations highlighting the achievements of the development of national intellectual property systems, but also outlined priorities for the current series of meetings of the WIPO Assemblies and the future activities of the Organization.

In the context of the 58th Series of the Annual Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization, AGEPI participates with an exhibition stand entitled “MOLDOVA - designing lifestyle” – The Role of Design in Increasing the Quality of Life in the Republic of Moldova. On the stand are exhibited some of the best achievements of the domestic creators in the field of product design and industrial design, fashion design, plastic arts, furniture, graphics, architecture, interior design, etc., which excels through originality, creativity and by fitting thereof into international trends. The official opening of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday, September 26.
