Bilateral Meeting of AGEPI and DKPTO

In the period 9-11 September 2015, at the State Agency on Intellectual Property (A) took place the working visit of representatives of the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO). The DKPTO delegation included Keld Nymann Jensen, Deputy Director General and Kenny Wright, senior adviser in the field of enforcement of intellectual property rights.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations of cooperation between AGEPI and DKPTO in the field of development of national systems of protection, use and enforcement of intellectual property rights and to identify long-term priority directions of bilateral cooperation.

The bilateral meeting was attended by deputy directors general of the State Agency on Intellectual Property, Mrs. Svetlana Munteanu and Mr. Ion Tiganas, who thanked colleagues from Denmark for the fruitful collaboration between offices. They presented the latest developments in developing and strengthening the national IP system, following the implementation of the TWINNING Project “Support to Implementation and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova” and the National Intellectual Property Strategy until 2020: implementation of the quality system ISO 9001:2008, harmonization of national legislation with European directives in the field of IP, development and launch of the system for online filing of applications for the protection of IP objects, completion of the procedures necessary for validation of European patents in the Republic of Moldova, creation of the Observatory on the Enforcement of IP Rights, development of the geographical indications system, promotion of innovations, etc.

The leaders of both offices emphasized the importance of such bilateral meetings for the exchange of experience and taking over the best practices in the field of protection and use of intellectual property rights.

In accordance with the program of the working visit, representatives of the Danish Patent and Trademark Office have also met with the heads of departments and divisions of AGEPI, who took part in the implementation of the TWINNING Project. They discussed issues related to the promotion of the national system of intellectual property, communication tools used by AGEPI in order to raise the level of society information and awareness of the role and importance of IP for economic, social and cultural development of society, and the necessity of enforcement of IP rights (public campaigns, seminars, workshops, mass media, etc.)

At the end of the visit, both sides appreciated the exchange of experience they had and suggested the organization of more such meetings.

TWINNING Project “Support to Implementation and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova”, financed by the European Union, was implemented in the period of the years 2010-2012 by the Danish Patent and Trademark Office, tState Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania and State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova. In the implementation of the project also took part the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Customs Service and Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
