On May 14 this year, in Chisinau, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) will participate together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and other public authorities in the country in the celebration of Europe Day 2016, in the framework of the European Village.
The event is organized by the European Union Delegation to Moldova. Inauguration of the celebration will take place in the Square of Europe, and all manifestations will be organized in the Public Garden “Stefan cel Mare”.
On the occasion of Europe Day in Moldova, AGEPI will organize a series of actions to promote information on the implementation of European values in the field of intellectual property.
In the framework of the European Village, AGEPI will participate with a joint stand with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry in which will be presented local products with geographical indications of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, European Village visitors will have the opportunity to taste and even buy Popeasca Cheese, Calarasi Rose Petal Jam, Zabriceni Herbal Teas, Nimoreni Apricot Brandy, and Marinici Gooseberry.
AGEPI specialists will familiarize visitors with the institution’s activities, will disseminate information and promotional materials developed by the Agency with the support of European partners and will provide information about the projects carried out by AGEPI, with EU assistance.
At the same time, by the AGEPI stand will be promoted the system of validation of European patents in the Republic of Moldova, following the entry into force on 1 November 2015 of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Patent Organization on Validation of European Patents, signed in Munich in October 2013.
Thus, according to the provisions of the Agreement, as of 1 November 2015, foreign applicants can validate their European patent applications and European patents in our country, they benefiting from the same rights and legal protection as national patents issued in the Republic of Moldova.
AGEPI, as a public institution responsible for the promotion of interests of the Republic of Moldova in international organizations in the field, has as main objective the integration of the national intellectual property system into the international and European one.
At the moment of entry of the Republic of Moldova into the family of European states, AGEPI will be fully integrated into the European intellectual property system, ensuring an effective level of protection of intellectual property rights similar to the European one.
We remind that on 11 April this year, AGEPI Director General, Octavian Apostol, signed on behalf of the Republic of Moldova, at the headquarters of WIPO, the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement for the International Registration of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications, adopted on May 20, 2015. The signing of this Act will facilitate international registration of geographical indications.
Every year, Europe Day is marked on May 9 and we celebrate the historic day on which was marked the Schuman declaration. In a speech delivered in Paris, in 1950, French Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time, Robert Schuman, proposed the establishment of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, to eliminate forever the possibility of a renewed outbreak of war between European nations. This day is considered as the day of initiation of European integration.
