On April 5, 2018, the League of Female Engineering Students, a newly formed community within the Technical University of Moldova (TUM), gathered together ladies and gentlemen from the field of engineering at an event entitled “I’m a Future Engineer”. Its purpose was to identify the directions of development and to promote the image of female engineer. In the context of supporting and stimulating ideas for creativity and innovation, among the young people the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated as partner of the event.

The League of Female Engineering Students was founded with the aim of encouraging and motivating female students and graduates to work in the field of engineering. During the event “I’m a Future Engineer”, more details have been provided about how you can get involved in the activities carried out by this organization, as well as several opportunities and events in which young girls will be able to participate in the near future.

Attending the event, Lilia Bolocan, Director General of AGEPI, welcomed the idea of setting up the League of Female Engineering Students and stressed the need to strengthen the community of engineering women. “In exploration of the field of engineering, in my opinion, typical female qualities are necessary: intuition, curiosity, meticulousness, perseverance, passion for work and patience, i.e. our main “engines”. Engineering offers fantastic career opportunities and the opportunity to really change something for the society and for the future of the Republic of Moldova. I hope that by positive examples and explaining what options there are in this field, we can convince more young girls to choose the way of engineering.”, Added AGEPI.

Annually, on April 26 is marked the World Intellectual Property Day. This celebration was set up to learn more about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

Thus, the World Intellectual Property Organization proposes annually a main title for celebration of this day, the theme of 2018 being: Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity, celebrating the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity and courage of the women who, through their work, are driving change in our world and shaping our common future.
