From 23 to 25 February this year, in Chisinau, took place the fifth edition of the National Sciences and Engineering Pupils Contest “Mold SEF”. The contest was organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova, National Curriculum and Assessment Agency together with multiple partners.
In the context of supporting and stimulating creative ideas and inventions, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated as a partner of the contest. Attending the opening of the event, AGEPI Director General, Octavian Apostol, said that this competition is a good platform for young people to exchange ideas and to promote works created.
This year’s edition of the contest was attended by over 90 pupils from pre-university, secondary vocational and specialized secondary education institutions in different districts, with 61 projects.
The best works were rewarded with letters of commendation, diplomas of I, II and III degree, granted by the Ministry of Education, according to the three contest categories: sciences, applied sciences and information technologies, and special prizes from partners. Thus, AGEPI offered gifts and cash prizes to winners of the three categories, as well as to professors who prepared the pupils for the contest.
Projects that have ranked first, for each category are:
- Chirita Sandu, tenth grade pupil and Moscalet Igor, ninth grade pupil, ORT Technological Lyceum “Hertli”, Chisinau, Project “Behave - an authentication system based on mouse and keyboard dynamics”;
- Hincu Nadejda, Tighineanu Elena, twelfth grade pupils, Theoretical Lyceum “Horizon”, Chisinau, Project “Empowering Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties of Juglone by Obtaining Juglone - Beta Cyclodextrin Binary System”;
- Cerempei Ion, twelfth grade pupil, Theoretical Lyceum “George Calinescu”, Chisinau, Project “External Combustion Engine”.
The award ceremony was attended by representatives of the institutions involved in the organization of the event, partners and sponsors of this contest. The invitees congratulated the participants for performance that they showed and expressed confidence that Moldova’s future is in the hands of ambitious and inventive young people.
Projects that have ranked first will represent Moldova in the International Contest “Intel ISEF 2017”, which will run from 14 to 19 May in Los Angeles, California, USA.
