AGEPI Participated in the Celebration of Beekeeper’s Day 2014

On August 19, 2014, in the conference hall of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry was held the festive meeting dedicated to Beekeeper’s Day. This event was a good opportunity to raise domestic producers’ awareness on the need to actively use a strong tool to promote agricultural products of guaranteed origin and quality, such as geographical indications.

The festive meeting was attended by representatives of associations of beekeepers from Basarabeasca, Cantemir, Falesti, Glodeni, Hancesti, Orhei, Sangerei, Straseni, Comrat, Soldanesti and individual beekeepers. The ceremony was honored by the presence of the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI), National Agency for Food Safety (NAFS), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Moldova, State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI).

AGEPI was represented by Mrs. Svetlana Munteanu, Deputy Director General, Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director, Trademarks, Industrial Designs Department and Alina Fodea, Senior Specialist, Marketing and Services Department.

At the opening of the festive meeting, Mr. Stefan Condratiuc, President of the Beekeepers’ Association of the Republic of Moldova congratulated all professional beekeepers on the occasion of the professional day, which this year reached the ninth edition. In his speech, Mr. Condratiuc focused on beautiful results obtained by beekeepers this year, noting that as a result of participation in the “World Award in Beekeeping 2013”, within which the Moldovan products have won two gold medals, sharply increased the demand for honey produced in Moldova.

Words of greeting also addressed to beekeepers representatives of MAFI, NAFS and IFAD, who responded to a series of questions asked by the participants in the event.

Mrs. Svetlana Munteanu, Deputy Director General of AGEPI congratulated beekeepers with their professional holiday and said that Moldovan bee products, whose quality is recognized around the world, deserve to be promoted more effectively in export markets through the use of geographical indications. In this context, Mrs. Munteanu invited beekeepers to participate on September 2, at the AGEPI, in a working meeting of the experts of the World Intellectual Property Organization with the representatives of AGEPI, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Ministry of Economy and other public authorities concerned, as well as associations of producers and individual producers from all over the country who want to embrace this effective mechanism to promote products with high added value.

All the participants in the festive Meeting have been assigned a set of informative materials in the field of geographical indications and appellations of origin, including an Introductory Producer’s Guide on registration of geographical indications and appellations of origin.
