25 Years since the Establishment of the National Intellectual Property System of the Republic of Moldova

On September 8, this year, 25 years have passed since the creation of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and the establishment of the national intellectual property system of the Republic of Moldova.

On this occasion, an official ceremony dedicated to the AGEPI’s anniversary took place at the Palace of the Republic, attended by members of the Government, deputies, representatives of diplomatic missions and business environment, as well as invitees from the institutions in the field of science, innovation and higher education. The event was also attended by representatives of intellectual property offices from abroad.

AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan opened the event with a speech in which she mentioned the role of the Agency in the creation, development and affirmation of an intellectual property protection system in the Republic of Moldova comparable to similar systems of countries with considerable traditions in the field.

Present at the event, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Jizdan, congratulated on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, stressing that “Cooperation between state institutions and right holders is extremely important for the protection of intellectual property. AGEPI is one of the key players in ensuring this cooperation. On September 8, we celebrate 25 years since creation and intellectual work directly contributed to the development of our country and to improving the lives of citizens.”

With a congratulatory message from the World Intellectual Property Organization came Giovanni Napolitano, Interim Director, Directorate for SMEs and Entrepreneurship Assistance, WIPO, who welcomed the efforts of the authorities in Chisinau to ensure the protection of intellectual property rights and highly appreciated the activity of the State Agency on Intellectual Property in this field.

Also in her address to the audience Urszula Pallasz, Business Deputy of the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova, mentioned that intellectual property rights are crucial to increase creativity, innovation and competitiveness. “The EU wants to support the Republic of Moldova in developing the national intellectual property system, which in turn will boost the economy of the country,” added Urszula Pallasz.

In turn, Richard Flammer, Chief Information Officer, Patent Information and European Patent Academy, the European Patent Organization (EPO), congratulated AGEPI with the beautiful anniversary, underlining the importance of entry into force on November 1, 2015, of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic Moldova and the EPO on Validation of European Patents. Richard Flammer also came with a gift from the EPO: the first European patent granted to some owners from the Republic of Moldova.

AGEPI also received congratulations from the Vice-President of the Eurasian Patent Organization, Khabibullo Fayazov, Director General of the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania, Andriana Aldescu, Deputy Director of the Romanian Office for Copyright, Irina Lucan-Arjoca, President of the Association of Authorized Attorneys, Olga Socolova, as well as other public institutions and authorities from the republic and from abroad, participating in the festivity.

During the festive meeting, 6 employees of AGEPI who have made a remarkable contribution to the development of the intellectual property system have been mentioned with Diplomas of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which were handed over by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Jizdan.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of AGEPI and the creation of the national intellectual property system, AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan mentioned the most active authorized attorney. Thus, the AGEPI Trophy “Most Active Authorized Attorney – 25 Years” was awarded to Nicolae Glazunov.

During the festive ceremony was handed over the trademark registration certificate No. 30 000: Mark ea.md.

For the support granted to economic agents in the field of intellectual property protection, as well as the high quality of the provided services, AGEPI was mentioned with the distinction of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova “Goddess of Quality”, handed in the festive ceremony by Sergiu Harea, President of the CCI.

First Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, academician Ion Tighineanu, present at the event, congratulated the AGEPI team for the achievements achieved over 25 years and in appreciation of the efforts made by AGEPI to promote the achievements of researchers and inventors of the Republic of Moldova at the international exhibitions of inventions and new technologies from abroad, handed the AGEPI the Diploma of Honor of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

One of the most exciting moments of the festivity was the awarding of the Golden Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organization for Creativity to master Nicolae Botgros, artistic director and first conductor of the National Folk Music Orchestra “Lautarii”, for remarkable successes and personal contribution and also of the orchestra that he leads to the propagation of the true national values ​​in the country and abroad. The prestigious distinction was handed over by Giovanni Napolitano, Interim Director, WIPO SMEs and Entrepreneurship Support Division.

This distinction was granted by WIPO, at the initiative of AGEPI, as a national authority responsible for the protection of intellectual property on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

With a folk music recital, the famous National Folk Music Orchestra “Lautarii”, led by master Nicolae Botgros, the Romanian folk musician Gherghe Turda, and BrioSonores, came in front of the participants.
